About Auburn

Some of the oldest private sewer lines in western Sydney run under this suburb. Auburn was being subdivided in the 1870s and built out heavily through the twenties and thirties, so a drain here can be earthenware, cast iron, or a patchwork of both where somebody replaced a section decades ago and stopped at the easy bit.

The camera goes in through the inspection opening and we watch the whole run, not just up to the obstruction. You watch it with us. What comes back is usually one of four things: a root mass through a cracked earthenware joint, internal scale narrowing a cast iron line, a belly holding water where the ground has settled, or a straight build up of grease and rubbish.

Each one wants something different. Roots get cut back to the pipe wall with a high pressure jetter rather than punched through. Scale needs a different nozzle and more patience. A belly cannot be cleared permanently at all, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a return visit.

What can the camera tell you that a cable cannot?

A cable tells you something moved. The camera tells you what was there, how far along it sits, and whether the pipe itself has failed. On a line as old as Auburn's, that difference is what separates a clear from a repair.

My pipes are cast iron, not clay. Does that change the job?
