About Rydalmere

This was abbey and orchard country before the Housing Commission built through it after the war, and the street pattern still shows it. Rows of 1950s and 1960s brick cottages, then a gap where one came down and a duplex or three townhouses went up. Around a third of the dwellings here have been rebuilt that way. Flats are the exception rather than the rule at under 14 per cent, which is unusual for this part of Parramatta.
