What happens when you call

You get Mustafa, not a call centre. Tell him what is overflowing and how often it has done it before. If it is running out of the gully right now, he will tell you what to shut off while he is on the way.
He clears the line. Electric eel or high pressure jetting, whichever suits the pipe and the blockage. The aim is to get you working again the same day.

How many times should a drain block before I stop just clearing it?

Twice in a year is the point to put a camera down it. A one off blockage after a big rain event or a nappy going down the loo is bad luck. A line that closes over again on the same schedule has something structural going on, usually a crack or a dropped joint, and clearing it again only buys you a few more months.

Is it cheaper to keep clearing the line or to fix it properly?

Depends how often you are ringing. A resin liner is pulled through the existing pipe and cured hard, leaving a new pipe formed inside the old one, and it suits cracked or root damaged earthenware that still holds its shape and its fall. Where a section has collapsed or dropped out of line there is nothing to line against and it has to come out. Clearing is cheaper on the day. Two clears a year for a decade is not.

Can you clear a blockage without digging up my yard?

Most of the time, yes. A high pressure jetter works from an existing inspection opening or an overflow relief gully and cuts the roots out of the line. Digging only comes into it when the camera shows a broken section that has to be cut out and replaced, and in that case you see the footage before anyone picks up a shovel.

Whose drain is it once it passes the fence line?

The sewer line on your property is yours to maintain right up to the connection point. Past that it is Sydney Water's. Blockages sit on your side far more often than people expect, which is why the camera matters. It shows you exactly where the problem is rather than leaving it as an argument.

Will tree roots come back after the drain is cleared?

If the pipe still has the crack that let them in, yes, usually within a year or two. Roots follow moisture and they will find the same opening again. Cutting them out treats the symptom. Sealing or replacing the damaged section is what actually stops the cycle.
