    The same drain blocks every winter. Why?
    Roots. Trees hunt water hardest when the ground dries out and they find it at the one place a sewer line leaks, which is a cracked or open joint. Cutting them out restores flow but leaves the joint exactly as it was, so the roots come back through the same hole. Until that section is repaired or relined you are on a clearing cycle.
    What is relining, and when is it worth doing?
    A resin liner is drawn through the existing pipe and cured in place, which seals the joints without digging up the yard. It is worth it when the pipe is structurally sound but leaking at joints, which is most root problems. It is not worth it if the line has collapsed or sagged badly, because then you are lining a pipe that has already lost its shape.
    Can you tell the difference between a broken pipe and a plain blockage?
